Court Ballet

The Cracovia Danza Court Ballet was called into existence on September 1st 2006 as a Municipal Institution of Culture by virtue of a resolution passed by the Krakow City Council (Resolution No. CXIV/1185/06 of July 5th, 2006).
The Executive and Artistic Director of the Cracovia Danza Court Ballet isRomana Maciuk-Agnel, a dancer and choreographer specializing in historical and character dances.
The ballet continues the work of the Ardente Sole Court Ballet as well as the Foundation, established in 1998 by Romana Agnel, which functions under the same name. The institution was founded to create the best working conditions for dancers who make up a unique and the only professional historical dance ensemble in Poland, one which can boast numerous meaningful artistic and organizational successes as well as accomplishments in the field of the advancement of high culture and artistic education.
The institution initiates, organizes and supports various events intended to popularize dance culture and heritage. The Ballet’s activities facilitate an exchange of experiences among Polish and foreign artists who hold an interest in historical dances and help to popularize court art and culture. The ballet collaborates with both Polish and foreign research and cultural institutions working to promote and spread historical dances and court culture.
THE BALLET'S BASIC PROGRAM ASSUMPTIONS:
1. The creation and staging of ballet performances connected with the history and traditions of Poland, and especially Krakow.
2. Bringing Polish and foreign audiences closer to Polish dance art by reaching into ballet repertoires of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque.
3. The development of cooperation and exchange with valued dancers and choreographers from Poland and abroad.
4. Cooperation and exchange with other dance ensembles by enabling their presentations, and through the organization of meetings and workshops for dancers and everyone who holds an interest in the subject.
5. The diffusion of knowledge about dance through the organization of seminars, meetings, and discussions, as well as exhibitions connected with the art of dance and the history of costumes.
6. The publishing of informative and educational publications connected with dance.
7. Educational activities:
a) running regular classes, the preparation of
special programmes and choreographies for children’s and youth
ensembles;
b) training instructors of children’s and youth dance
ensembles;
c) teaching classes connected with the history of dance and the
presentation of historical costumes of different periods.
8. Conducting research into the history of dance and ballet, recreating repertoires of Polish ballets and dances of different periods.
