Dances were one of the most important source of inspiration for Fryderyk Chopin. Almost half of over 200 of his works has a dance name in its title and in many others one can find very expressive dance rythms. The composer was a great dancer himself and a regular guest in salons and balls in Warsaw, Vienna and Paris. Therefore in his works he expressed the character of popular salon dances of his time with a great perfection and creativuty.
The scenery for the film produced by the Cracovia Danza Film Studio has become Villa Decius, a Renaissance villa in the outskirts of Krakow. In the second half of 19th century it has become a home of Princess Marcelina Czartoryska, a great Polish pianist, a student of Fryderyk Chopin. She created there the artistic salon, in which her masters music was one of the most important elements.
In the film the ladies and gentlemen dance to ChopinÔÇÖs music such forms as valse, ecossais, bour├Ęe, l├Ąndler and the country dance. The choreography, developed by Romana Agnel, was based on reconstruction of the dance forms from the treatise by the French dance master Henri Cellarius, ÔÇ×La danse de salonÔÇŁ (1848).
