Sobieski and Mary d\' Arquien
Letters to Marysieńka by King John Sobieski III laid the groundwork for recounting the story of one of the famed love affairs of the 17th century. Events connected with the victorious return of John III from Vienna provide the motif for the performance.
The language of dance makes it possible to show the specific place Poland occupied on the map of Europe at the time. This was a place where Polish, French and oriental cultures mingled. With its formal construction the performance alludes to entrée-type court ballet spectacles which were so popular in the Baroque, as well as to spectacles whose subject-matter revolved around heroic-mythological themes.
