CARNIVAL REPERTOIRE
The Ballet also has in its repertoire a programme which can add lustre to any carnival ball or party. The Ballet can present either a full one-hour plus performance which engages the whole group (from 10 to 12 people), or a shorter 10-minute version for a single pair of dancers.
The Polish Carnival – a performance and a panorama of dances and customs in Poland consisting of three vignettes:
The Carnival at Wawel which presents ball and mask dances executed by courtiers during carnival time at the Wawel Royal Court;
The Old Polish Carnival which presents some of the most well-known and popular Polish dances from the ball repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries;
and a vignette titled Fin de Siecle which transports the audience into a carnival ball in Krakow at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The presentation of the Venetian Carnival is also a vivid programme of dance and pantomime. Through it the artists take the audience on a journey of sunny Italy of the 17th and 18th centuries, and the stage is populated by, amongst others, Harlequin and Colombine – characters of commedia dell’arte – as well as other types and characters from the Italian carnival.
